Your kidney health
questions, answered
How do I know if I have kidney disease?
Kidney disease is often silent in early stages. Common warning signs include foamy urine, blood in urine, swollen ankles or feet, fatigue, and increased need to urinate at night. If you have diabetes, hypertension, or a family history of kidney disease, get tested with a urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (uACR) and eGFR blood test.
What is eGFR and what does my score mean?
eGFR (Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate) measures how well your kidneys filter blood, calculated from your age, gender, and serum creatinine. A score above 90 is normal. 60–89 should be monitored regularly. A score below 60 persisting for more than 3 months indicates chronic kidney disease and warrants a nephrology consultation.
Can diabetes cause kidney disease?
Yes. Diabetes is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease, accounting for nearly 40% of all kidney disease worldwide. About 1 in 3 adults with diabetes develops kidney disease. All those with type 2 diabetes should have their blood and urine tested for kidney disease every year.
What dialysis options are available?
We offer comprehensive dialysis options including hemodialysis and hemodiafiltration, peritoneal dialysis (home-based), Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD), Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD), and critical care CRRT (CVVHD, CVVHDF) for patients in the ICU.
What types of kidney transplants does Dr. Vishal Singh perform?
Dr. Vishal Singh has performed over 1,000 kidney transplants including blood group incompatible (ABO-incompatible) transplants, kidney transplantation in sensitized hosts, pediatric kidney transplants, and deceased donor kidney transplantations, with comprehensive pre- and post-transplant follow-up care.
